The death toll climbed to eight as a powerful earthquake jolted several parts of Pakistan on Tuesday, DawnNewsTV reported.

Earlier, the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) measured the earthquake at 6.0 magnitude, while the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the magnitude was 5.8. 

At least one person has been killed and 50 others injured after a powerful earthquake jolted parts of Pakistan, including the capital, northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and east Punjab provinces, on Tuesday afternoon, government officials said.

The China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) measured the earthquake at 6.0 magnitude with a depth of 10 km. 

No loss of life or property has been immediately reported.

One person was killed and about 50 people were injured in the earthquake. 

The strong tremors were felt in different areas of the country, including Punjab, northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, capital Islamabad and some parts of northeast Kashmir area, local media reported.

A rescue operation is underway.
